THREE times as many people are turning to pawnbrokers for loans now than they were at the start of the year. The owner of one of the best-known pawnbroking businesses in the UK has reported enquiries running at “300 per cent” compared with January.
Amid the cost-of-living crisis, his customers range from householders seeking tiny loans to businessmen looking for short-term access to thousands that banks refuse to take on.
